BACKGROUND
1982 - Founded on January 26, 982 on the approval of His Majesty Paduka Seri Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam through a Memorandum of Minister of Brunei, Total: SUK.06 / 84/92 dated January 26, 1982.

1982 - Based on the building while Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka in Jalan Elizabeth II, Bandar Seri Begawan.
1984 - placed under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

1985 - Moved to the former building of the Public Service Commission (PSC) on Stoney Road, Bandar Seri Begawan.
1987- to Brunei History Center building recently built in the area of ​​the former Australian Education Office in Stoney Road, Bandar Seri Begawan.
1988 - New building inaugurated Brunei History Center.
Foundation Stone Laying .

2005- Addition and Renovation Building Brunei History Center.
2007-25 years of the establishment of the Brunei History Center.

2008 - Extension and renovation Brunei History Center were put into use in stages.
​
2009 - Additional and modified Brunei History Center building has been fully utilized.

2012 - Brunei History Center Bookstore opened.
​
2013 - The new building of Brunei History Center, known as the Borneo Research Center (penBorneo) has started operations located in Block 31, Flat Building Former Government anggerek village, Simpang 394, Jalan Berakas.

2013 - Manuscript Collection Exhibition Gallery Exhibition Gallery Pedigree Borneo and inaugurated.

VISION AND MISSION
Vision
To make the Brunei History Centre as the centre for Brunei Historical resources.
Mission
To conduct research, documentation, study and publication efforts on all aspects of the history of Brunei with special focuses on the history and genealogies of Brunei Sultans, state dignitaries and other eminent and prominent persons based on the aspiration of the nation.

To establish systematic computerized central data collection, processing and on-line retrieval systems to facilitate fast and effective usage in the research and study of Brunei History.
​
To exhibit historical materials and research findings on Brunei to be made known to the public.
​
To establish the History Centre as an authorized Institution and a Centre for research, reference and study materials on the affairs of Brunei History.
